JustCalories is an iOS application developed and operated by Ievgen Mykhailov ("we", "us", or "our"). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].
When you log a meal, you can take a photo with your camera or choose one from your photo library. That image is sent to our AI service at justcalories.app solely to estimate the meal's calories and macronutrients. We do not store your photos on our servers beyond the time required to process the request. Photos you have already logged are stored on-device in the app's private container.
With your permission, JustCalories reads the following from Apple Health:
JustCalories writes the following to Apple Health when you log a meal:
Apple Health data is processed on your device and governed by Apple's privacy framework. We do not store your Apple Health data on our servers, and we never store it in iCloud.
To generate the personalized coaching and meal suggestions you ask for, a summary figure derived from Apple Health — specifically your daily calories burned — may be sent to our AI service (OpenAI, via justcalories.app) together with the meals you logged in the app. This is used only to produce the suggestion you requested: it is processed transiently, is not retained by us, and is never used for advertising, marketing, or data mining. If you set your burned energy manually instead of using Apple Health, no Apple Health data is involved.
We store your goals, body metrics (height, age, biological sex, and confirmed weight), dietary preferences, and display settings. These are saved on your device and, when iCloud is enabled, synchronized across your own devices through Apple's iCloud key-value storage. Raw Apple Health readings are never written to iCloud — only values you have entered or confirmed yourself. These preferences are not sent to our servers.
All meal records and logged nutrition data are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Meal photos you have logged are stored in the app's private on-device container. No meal records or photos are uploaded to or stored on our servers.
If you delete the app, all locally stored data is deleted from your device. Any nutrition samples written to Apple Health remain there and must be removed through the Health app if you wish to delete them.
JustCalories uses the following third-party service to process meal photos and to generate nutrition coaching and meal suggestions:
No other third-party SDKs, analytics services, or advertising networks are included in the app.
JustCalories is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
Because JustCalories does not collect personal data on our servers, there is no account or profile to request access to or deletion of. All data the app generates lives on your device and in Apple Health, both of which you control directly.
If you have questions or concerns, contact us at [email protected].
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
